The Impact!

This will gonna be a long long post.

This is the first time, I felt like doing something to Malaysia, as in really wanted to change for good, for the next generation. For some reason, I was empowered by the words, inspired by the people I met, driven by the desire, affected by their passion. Never even imagine that I will be “debating” with people about economics out of class and academic issue. The issue was this, when petrol price increased, the drinks in mamak stall increased too. When the petrol price went down, the drinks’ price didn’t go down at all, in fact, increased again due to sugar. =.= then, we start to discuss about it, argued about the drinks’ price should went down etc etc…. and is kinda fun when we talk about it, during lunch.

Well, I think this is the difference between the people that I met with different mindset and event. Attending MSLS[Malaysia Student Leaders Summit] 09, Embrace the Power of Reason, let meet different kind of people, student from LSE, Ireland etc. Thank god this year I didn’t really hide in the toilet again, but wandering around the food. And I like the theme personally, “Embrace” is the strong word I suppose. “拥抱改变的力量”为什么不是“理由”而是“改变”?因为我们有了改变的理由,所以改变是最终的目的。Most of the delegates are Malaysian who pursue their studies oversea, and they purposely flied all the way back [or not] just to attend this conference. Most of them attended for one reason, aspire to make change. They concerned so much about Malaysia current situation and would like to confront and question the big shot of Malaysia on the policy or the reason of their act. Brilliant Najib refuse to turn out last minutes, and avoided tons of question by the floor, especially the issue of One Malaysia. But last year, Abudullah Badawi is not that lucky, get shot and injured by the press. Pitty him.

One of the session that interested me is the Education/Language forum, on the topic “The Survival of Bahasa Melayu as our National Language in the Context of Education Policy Development” lead by Dato Aziz Ishak, editor of Utusan Melayu, Y.B. dato Saifuddin Bin Abdullah, Deputy Higher Education Minister, A. Samad Said, National Laureate, Datuk Wong Chun Wai, Group Chief Editor of The Star. With full respect, A. Samad Said was some how questioned about his duty and responsibility being the advisor of Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka that didn’t manage to play a role in “rescuing Bahasa Melayu”. Well, the interesting part was the polite debate between Datuk Wong Chun Wai and Y.B. dato Saifuddin. Statements given by Datuk that language comes with economic value and there is no harm learning both language, and the title forum that is practical to Malaysia current situation is the survival of English instead of Bahasa Melayu. And I love one of the statements made by Datuk “Malaysia government always tend to announce then only think about it!” it is so damn true!!! Remember when the MOE announced that switching the reversing gear back to maths and science in BM, they said that form 4 student need to learn both subject in BM. Then after the 2 day conference, MOE announce that it is ok for them to continue in English…. =.= see? Live example. Sigh!

Well, to improve BM, there is many things can be done, but why are we looking back? Why are we reversing? YB compared Malaysia’s English standard with Myanmar and all but why not the developed country? Isn’t this a self-deceiving comparison? Back to Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, why there is lack of BM translated books? Isn’t this a way to save BM?

Some shocking news I get at the forum: I was shocked that the YB is shocked that Tan Sri Muhyiddin didn’t realize that English grammar is not taught in schools. This can shown how down to earth this minister are, and how much they really concerned about the nations’ development. Sigh again… and there is a delegate who pointed out that with the same picture and same setting of the event, why NST stated the headline “Najib: One Malaysia” but Utusan Melayu wrote “Bangkitlah Melayu!” OMG, this is a drastic difference!!! And the respond by Dato Aziz Ishak was that it is depending of the context and history of Utusam Melayu when it was establish. Well, I thought news is supposed to report in a objective manner? It somewhat do revoked some race issue.

That’s enough for now, lets see what I can recall from the political session by Khairy and Tian Chua…

与其 在路上
迎面而来
招呼声 此起彼落
不如 在餐桌上
三三俩俩
畅所欲言。

Tomorrow is the day! Again, al-1.*Today*
