#69 Appreciation: Taste

Before enjoying the Food, I cant imagine that I have not realized the importance of taste prior to the food.

As per Smell, the ability of my precious taste buds (especially I loveeeee eating) to taste different flavour from different cuisine and delicacies is definitely life enhancer, where it just add lots of variety and spices in life as a human being.

To exhibit the importance of it, imagine what happens without the ability to taste, besides sightsmellhearing and touch  The misery should be able to explain why we should be thankful for such capability.

#68 Appreciation: Touch

Touch is stimulating! It awakens your feeling towards an object and longings. Simple thing like soft toys make you want to hug them and mom's chapped and calloused finger make me realized that how much effort she had done to reaise us and to take care of the family.

We simply need to be grateful of touch as per the other senses including  sightsmellhearing and taste, despite that such sense make you hurt more when you fall and injured...

#67 Appreciation: Hearing

Similar to Sight post, I should mentioned about our gifted ability to hear prior to Music and Oldies.

Without the hearing ability, the communication chain is incomplete (prior to learning of sign language and lip reading). To me, hearing is as great as the ability to see, followed by sighttastetouch, and smell. Given such gifted talent of hearing, it makes me reflect that I shall continuously improve my listening skills especially when people comment, provide feedback and even criticise for the shake of improvement in life. Not to forget, always be confident to accept praise and compliment, as we do deserve what we have contribute, is a simple way to cheer my day and boost my confidence.

#66 Appreciation: (Able to) Smell

If I must arrange the order on the importance of the 5 senses, my first thought will be the least for smell as compare the rest like sighthearingtaste and touch.

To me, the ability to smell is an enhancer of our life. It excites us when we smell great food, and there is certain degree of seduction (?), it allows us to distinguish whether the condition (physical, environment or even food) is bad or good. It exist for a reason and often such ability present for good. Never take smell for granted, as our life could be much duller without the spice as part of our senses.

#65 Appreciation: Sight

Should think of this prior to Colours, which is sight, our ability to look, watch, see the world.
"Eyes are the windows to one soul", yet without sight, even the windows dont open.

Hellen Keller is indescribable person, given her spirit to continue to live with disability.

I guess there are nothing much to say about why should I appreciate sight, as well as the following senses smell, hearing, taste and touch. Is just something to be grateful about, being able to see the world with colours (both objects and human) and indulge in the beauty of the mother nature.

#64 Appreciation: Dream

Similar to creativity, dream is one of the aspect of life that most of us consciously neglect but subconsciously in the heart still longing for it. Like many said, dream (the one that you experience when you sleep) implies that your mind have been constantly think of it that it still "hunt" you down when you are sleeping. Similar to other context, dream is a goal, a state that we want to achieve, but yet to be start of or is hard to accomplish.

I have mentioned about dream in my previous post before the start of the 100 days project, and has featured a meaningful  video that discuss about how we can achieve the 'far far away land'... and one of the takeaway is to step out of the comfort zone. Easier said then done. The first step of stepping out from the complacent is often the hardest, followed by adapting it and not retracting after encountering with the first downfall/obstacle.

I realized my problem in realizing my dream... Not the first step, rather, is to sustain throughout the phase of working towards my dream (especially not being told off by the public and general perception). To all dream achiever, I salute your resilience and determination, as for those who struggle, we shall work together to reach our 'dream' (which is not going to be a dream soon!)

#63 Appreciation: Wishes and Blessings

In conjunction to Eid Mubarak, a festival celebrated by our Muslim friends today, it reminds me the importance of the wishes and greetings from our friends and families. It is abstract, but their presence, care and blessings, can be the best emotional and spiritual support when I am down.

Six degrees of separation. A theory describe about human connection. With this theory, apparently the we know everyone in the world, somehow directly or indirectly. Knowing is one thing, being friendly and thoughtful is another. Having hundreds and thousands of friends on Facebook, how many of them who genuinely send their regards and just wanted to know how have you been doing? How many of them remember your birthday, or even with Facebook reminder, they actually bother to wish you 'Happy Birthday'?

We cant force people to wish us, but one thing for sure, we can be grateful for those wishes that we received and be the one who care for them as well =))

Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri my friends!!

#62 Appreciation: Creativity

Creativity is precious! It is an element that lead to a different tone of life. When refer to creativity, I am not restricting it to the art sense of creativity, but rather is an ability to think on a different note.

Using creativity in a good way, most of the time, it as the domino effect of being inspirational, funny, amusement and amazement. My mum told me she used to have fun listening to what I composed when I was sitting behind the passenger seats and singing about cars, vehicles and other transport. Of course, those intuitive, on-the-spot creation ability happens to most of the kid, before we grown up and being trained to think twice.

As we become teenager, adolescence then adult, being mature is the most distinct attributes as compared to a children. Because of our ability to think and to judge, complement with the social structure, peer pressure and the realm of reality, we are consciously restricting our thoughts when we deal with things. This is not totally a bad thing, but at times, it is quite a lost that we are gradually loosing the creativity that we used to have when we are younger.

Watched an episode of Animation (yes, I am still watching 'cartoons' in the eye of adults), and it sparked me on the interpretation of Thomas A Edison's quote “Genius is 1 percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration.”. We always interpreted it as hard work usually will be the key to success, hard work matters etc, but the coach in the animation mentioned that the quote can be implied in a mean way that "one might not be able to succeed regardless how hard he/she had tried just because he/she is lacking of that 1%" (I know it sounds really negative and mean from the word but is really funny in the context of that episode). I just found that statement being creative in the sense that it interprets in a way that not the general public will think of because all these while, we have been "instilled" to think in a certain matter.

Release the creative soul in you =)

#61 Appreciation: Writing

I love writing, to be exact, I enjoy being able to express through words to convey message, to relate my thoughts, although miscommunication prone to happen since wirting is not embedded with tone as per verbal conversation. Well, there are input saying that we can express our words through symbols, yet is not applicable in every context.

If you have read through my previous post, I sort of repeated myself in a certain way that how much I enjoy when I received a Letter and being able to Read and Books. So I figure that writing, reading is in my soul, although when reality sets in, I tend to forgot what I am passion about. Yet writing/blogging this made me realized how long I have abandon my dream of being a renown author, writer, or even columnist -- about enjoying life and living the life in different perspective. I have to admit that my skills of expressing through words has been declining given the fact that I am not as strong willed like the successful one.

I really need to set things straight, given that this will be my final year of studies,  I shall not have other excuse of not committing in my interest thereafter...

#60 Appreciation: Exploration

Talking about exploration, is more than physical challenge but also psychologically and emotionally.

I am ambitious, sometimes my mum said that I am overly ambitious. Well, the fault is not solely on me, but 'life' too! Because we only live once, and I dont want to regret or keep wondering how will I be if I chosen the other path.

I always love the poem by Robert Frost "The Road Not Taken". Even though we can only chose one road, but there is no harm to peek and explore for a short distance if time and resources allow. At least after we get the feel of it, then we can make a better choice.  Exploration, is just another act that made me appreciate my life more =)

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

#59 Appreciation: Read

I always appreciate the fact that I am being born in an era where females are able to study in school and being educated.

I look at my grandma, who was being born before WW2 in a rural village. She only speaks dialect and basic common language and she cant read and write. Therefore, she seldom flip through newspaper and listen to news like my grandpa did. She has been working throughout her life, as a rubber tapper and planter, where she is being 'trained' to be as strong as men, even though she is 70+ this year. She cant stay still at home, even when she came to our house in the city. She dont enjoy TV programmes and she always find her way to do something such as house chores.

I am not pitying her, because this is what she enjoys. I somewhat felt relieve that I am sent to school to learn how to read, write and speak. I am thinking, at least when I aged, I still could communicate with the rest, write a letter and even read newspaper.

I love you grandma, stay healthy always!!!!

#58 Appreciation: Siblings

I have one younger brother, but we hardly on a good term. Not due to something serious but mostly some childish act between us.

Our age gap is 6 years, and people thought we should be able to "live in harmony", but the fact is always the opposite. We argue over which passenger seat/back seat, we fight for the last piece of Oreo (and debating over the size of it even when we break the last piece into half). Most importantly, I care for my "rebellion-stage" brother, whom I added him as friend in Facebook, and being un-friended by him twice and blocked once in the past 3 years. Simple reason: I just advised him or mentioned something about what he posted on FB status.

Regardless how often we fight against each other, I still love him. I love flipping through the photo album and there are pictures of me hugging and cuddling him when he was a baby, paying at the swing with him, selfie with him etc. It is an undeniable fact that he is my brother and always will be. Despite all the "fights" we had, there are times where I am touched by his thoughtful act. I still can remember the first time I was abroad for 2 months and it was his birthday where I cant celebrate with him. He told mum that he wants to save a piece of cake for me until I am back, which was 1.5 months later. Although he ended up finishing it (because the cake wont last), this small lil thought actually make me cry.... He was 13 years old that year...

For now, I just hope that he can be more mature (by not rebel, disappointing others, and have more self-control) and I do look forward to be with him as a supportive family member like I always do :))))

#57 Appreciation: Dissapointment

I have to admit, I am lost for awhile, that's the reason why I have been lagging my post for the past weeks.

Quote from anonymous "We never truly know how to appreciate something until we have lost it forever". I am grateful that I have not anything forever yet (besides youth and time, which lead me to write #43 Appreciation: Time) and hence I went to search what people appreciate in life and I found this - Disappointment.

The elaboration on this is "Disappointment - So you know the things that matter to you most" and it actually sort of echo what the quote that I mentioned earlier. Sometimes, we just didnt realize how much certain things or people matters to us and because of "disappointment" that we experienced after certain incidents, we then know that those are the things that have impact on us because we care. With such realization, we have to act, to improve or to get over it.

#56 Appreciation: Ethics

Ethics, a typical academic term... Yet, I cant find any word to make a replacement.

Ethics is different from moral, as the boundary of ethics is much more vague and debatable because the view of right and wrong is depending on the society and the outcome of it has much impact on the community.

I would be delighted if public view and act along with my opinion, but it doesn't mean that it is wrong or illegal if it is against. Talking about the recent issue that bothers me a lot is about unpaid work and underpaid wages. Being a newbie to the whole new career world, where the employment market is not as "bullish" as it suppose to be, thus higher labour supply. Company starts off with providing minimum pay, then decide to underpay the "employees" due to more labour supply and leads to now, providing a program where fresh grads need to pay to join the program just to secure an unpaid internship without guaranteeing future employment after 'internship'.

Is it legal for company (middle person) to initiate such program? Nope, is not illegal. In fact, is an entrepreneurial idea, entrepreneurs who saw and seized the opportunity. Yet, the fact where providing free labour to a company by charging the 'labour' a sum of fees... To me, is an oppressive act and it just merely taking advantage of fresh grads.

The message here is: despite how frustrated I am on a certain issue, the world couldnt be bother if this is not what being viewed by the society. If one morals aligned with the ethics, it would be less bothersome and much happier life one could live. Is either you change the world or you adapt with it or you get out from the zone.

#55 Appreciation: Food/Delicacies

I LOVE TO EAT!!!

Although it may sounds stupid and cruel (since I am not vegetarian). It is so amazing that as a human being we live apart, we shared common 'human' feature yet different background, thus different cultural and of course my favourite, food!

I am thankful that we are living in earth that filled with abundance of food, resources and water  that allows us to enjoy what we had today. Single ingredient, various cooking technique and idea! All of the delicacies today can't be presented if we are lacking of various  Machineries(Cooking Utensil) and Electricity. And being able to try and taste different food from different part of the world, is really an enjoyment and 'less tiring' discovery experience.

#54 Appreciation: 0 Choice

I am a typical Libra and I always in dilemma. Choosing a can of carbonated drinks can take me 30 minutes, imagine that. Previous post, I mentioned being blessed with options we had in life, but the world never go smoothly along our wishes.

When there is one and only way (given the different setting and context), I have no other options but to go with one and only choice. This time, the only way to go is to remain positive, and believe that there will be no regret after placing in all my effort. To add on to that, when I have no choice, ideas somewhat sparkle in my head or I am being more observant and able to detect minor flaw in the whole process!

Never feel despair even when we are left with no choices, we will somewhat learn something at the end of the day =)

#53 Appreciation: Memories

Happy, sad, frustration, anger, rage, love, delight, cheerful, disappointment, joy... I might not remember all that I had experienced but certain part of me definitely have 'recorded' the process and hide it somewhere subconsciously, waiting for it to be rediscover.

I am amaze with how brain works and the things we remember. Tons of it without us noticing. It soothes me with all the happiness encounters when I was down, and of course there is also pains that I reluctant to recall. Regardless how bad or good our experience is, what we faced made us what a unique person we are today... The brain and the memory are a virtual recorder and tape, which is also a virtual player that allows you to replay before the end...

While you still can remember and capacity, do create and collect all the memories that you had, reminisce and cherish the moments...

#52 Appreciation: Electricity

BLACKOUT!

I think I will get used to it in the past but not today. Given the privilege to use computers, mobile phones, WiFi... I just doubt that I can live without electricity supply. I recall the days where we experienced sudden blackout at night.... Back then, a bunch of us (the kiddos) will be so excited (although we cant watch Cartoon Network). Why? Because we can play with fire candle(Woops)! Those days, we can only light up candles during birthday celebration or lantern festival, other than that, those candles were kept far from us. Beside lighting the candles, that is also the time where we "cook" (the grass and burn paper and insects) and
not to forget the paper fan that we handmade...

*Back to topic*

With electricity, our life has ease so much and convenient. We have light at night, heater during winter, fan and air-conditional when we feel hot and heaps more. Especially in public area, we just consume as much electricity that we feel like. "We are paying others for our convenience, and because we pay, so we tend to forget the need of conserving it." Quoting the sentence from one of the celebrity in a reality show, and I cant agree more than that. The selfish nature in us lead us to act that way, without remembering the electric generators and the harm towards the mother nature...

Food for thought "How much energy we need to consume and how much we can save?"

#51 Appreciation: Machineries/Gadgets/Devices

Currently, I am watching a Korean reality-variety program "The Human Condition", which featured 6 comedians to challenge a week of the given theme and the theme is usually relates to the conveniences we get today or things we forget. They have done plenty issues, include living without mobile devices, TV and computers, living without water, finding true friends, living without cars etc.

One day as I was watching the episode, it hits me when one of the comedian highlighted the fact that machinery/gadgets today have provided us so much ease as compared to previous. From grill to toaster, from natural dry to hair dryer, from cooking in a pot to pressure cooker, from cloth to sponge mop etc

Is interesting to see how we aged and the world evolved....and 'time' is the only one who witnessed and recorded such changes.

#50 Appreciation: Imagination

Imagination is a powerful tool for future!

I am unsure since when I came across the idea that relates imagination with cartoon and linked it to future (today is the future of the past). An illustration will work best in describing what I am trying to convey =)

Robotic machine does not come across people's mind in reality in the past as robotic are just images featured in cartoons for kids and teens. However, because of the cartoonist or animation creative production team that have this kind of ideas, it inspired / urged the talent in other industry to work on this and make it feasible for us today.

So never underestimate kids-related matters, be it toys, cartoons/animation, drawing etc, because the imagination that links to them often will exist in the future for the good of mankind =)

#49 Appreciation: Non-Mainstream

Human are social animals, and most of us have the habits of going with the flow - the herd mentality. Unless we are limited by resource or in a different context, then we will opt for other options. Nothing wrong about being influenced by others or following the trend, same towards for those who chose to not be in the main stream industry.

Take an example, students' choice of university for the their further study. Given that there are no financial worries, most of the students will decide to go to the prestigious and higher ranking uni. It is a rational choice. Then students will start their social life with a group of friends from similar backgrounds if not same.

However, I came across this guy who choose a different path from the rest. He went to a uni which is known by public, but not a popular choice, hence it was a total stranger place to him. He stood out from his comfort zone and be part of the international student council. He have met more people and achieved more compared to his peers who go with the flow and hang out with the same click of friends.

He inspired me to start wondering, "What's wrong with going against the flow? You might just end up with something totally new and succeed in it!"
